About Hand Up
Hands That Shape Humanity was originally developed as an unprecedented international art exhibition. From a single question, ‘If you could leave one message for humanity, what would it be?‘, 36 iconic individuals, including Carlos Santana, Noor Al-Hussein, Paulo Coelho, Isabel Allende, and Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu, just to name but a few, shared their philosophies, reflections, insights and experiences in answer. With the clear vision of inspiring human potential, these answers were collected and shared as a visually powerful exhibition which has toured Cape Town (2006) and Oslo (2008).
The Hand Up Mentoring Program takes this vision further and goes to the source of creativity. Hand Up encourages emerging designers and artists to explore the messages of the Hands’ participants through the universal language of design, bringing passion and purpose together.
Hand Up gives emerging artists and designers the opportunity to hone their talents and contribute in a meaningful way to society, while furthering their career. The program focuses on all aspects of the design process to create “an ordinary product with an extraordinary message.”
For the last 3 years, Hands’ has collaborated with the College of Fine Arts (COFA) in Sydney, bringing several extraordinary projects to life, through a nurturing and empowering design and mentoring process. Below, you’ll find a selection of our favourite projects so far.
The Hand Up Mentoring Program works locally to affect positive change globally. If your university, here in Australia, or around the world, would like to find out how to become involved, contact the Hands’ team today.
